10,136 contact tracers to be deployed this week

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya has announced in the Department of Health (DOH) forum that 10,136 newly hired contact tracers will be deployed this week.

The deployment of the first batch of contact tracers will greatly help in reaching the Magalong recommended formula of 1:37 ratio. Under the formula, at least 70% of 37 contacts must be found within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the DILG is conducting a certain system for the public to validate contact tracers. DILG USec. Malaya has advised that if the contact tracing is done face-to-face, the ID of the contact tracer must be from the respective local government units (LGU). This certifies them as part of the LGU’s contact tracing team. The better way to identify legitimate contact tracers from the fake ones is to validate it with the BHERTS.

In relation with this, the DILG has also appealed to the public for cooperation with the contact tracers to hasten the process of tracing people who were in close contact with COVID-19 patients and to prevent the further spread of the virus. – Report from Mark Fetalco
