DepEd saddened by deaths of teachers, students

The Department of Education (DepEd) is saddened by the deaths of several teachers and students amidst the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and extends its sympathies to the families of the deceased.

The DepEd asks for the public to respect the families’ privacy and “avoid speculating on the cause of death. It also reminds that suicide is a “sensitive and complex issue.”

The education department appeals to the public to stop directly connecting the deaths to the modules or distance learning after it “received police blotters, incident reports, statements of families, and initial investigation of the cases, and none of them referred to distance learning as the primary cause.”

The DepEd also urged people not to use the unfortunate events in disregarding its efforts amidst the pandemic. It also assured continuous coordination with teachers and learners and provide different psychosocial interventions.
