Houses submerged, 1 missing in Batangas due to Typhoon Rolly

The Province of Batangas has recorded zero casualty from Typhoon Rolly, but Governor Hermilando Mandanas reported that a 23-year-old male resident remains missing in Ibaan, Batangas.

“Mayroon kaming isa na nawawala galing sa Ibaan, naglilinis ng drainage ng resort. Nahulog sa drainage system. (One resident from Ibaan is reported missing. He was cleaning a drainage of a resort when he fell right in there),” Mandanas said.

More than 100 residents were rescued and evacuated by the Philippine Red Cross after heavy flooding hit Batangas City on Sunday night. The high waters have already subsided but properties and establishments were left covered with mud.

Batangas Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (DRRMC) reported that Typhoon Rolly has brought more rains in the province than Typhoon Quinta which severely affected low-lying areas Tierra Verde and Brgy. San Isidro. The flood receded in Tierra Verde around 4 a.m. on Monday.

The local DRRMC is currently conducting operations to identify other damages in the province.

Some areas are still experiencing brownouts due to the recent typhoon. Mandanas estimated that electricity in 20 percent of barangays has not been restored. – Report from Louisa Erispe
