At least 9,407 families or 30,620 individuals were heavily affected in Marinduque due to super Typhoon Rolly which made landfall in the province after the onslaught of typhoon Quinta.
As of 8 a.m. on November 4, the partial cost of damage on the province’s agriculture sector has been estimated at ₱41,080,837.06 and on infrastructure at ₱4,105,000.
More than a hundred individuals are currently staying in evacuation facilities. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) of Marinduque reported that electricity has been restored only in main towns and some barangays.
“Malakas po si Rolly, pero sandali lang po namalagi. ‘Yun nga lang po ay napakalaki po ng volume ng tubig, ng ulan na ibinagsak niya sa lalawigan na nagresulta po ng mga pagbaha sa iba’t ibang lugar (Rolly was strong but stayed only for a short time. However, the volume of rainwater in the province was huge which flooded many areas),” Marinduque DRRMO head Jose Rino Labay reported.
“Katatapos lang po, apat na araw o limang araw lang po ang pagitan ng dalawang bagyo… So ‘yung damage caused sa electric posts na nabuwal ay medyo malaki (The time difference between the two typhoons was only four or five days. So the damage caused on fallen electric posts is quite massive),” Labay added.
Meanwhile, a teacher in Marinduque shared that many of his students have been heavily hit by the typhoon, with learning modules totally destroyed.
“Hindi po expected na magiging ganoon po kalakas ‘yung baha. So may instances po na pati po ‘yung mga estudyante namin, nagme-message po na wala na silang bahay, or ‘yung area po nila is baha na ‘yung loob mismo ng bahay nila (Heavy flooding was not expected. So there were instances when our students message us to say that they lost their homes or their areas or houses are submerged),” teacher Jomar Liwanagan Linga recounted.
Some classes will be delayed for several weeks due to the current situation.
“So ngayon po parang imposible po ‘yung online class. ‘Yung ilan po kung ‘di po nabasa ‘yung module, pati po gamit, gamit sa pag-aaral, nabasa. Cellphone po or signal talagang mahirap po (Online class seems impossible right now. It’s either their modules or other learning materials were damaged.
