US election results may impact WPS actions – Esperon

The final result of the ongoing Presidential Election in the United States of America may affect the current activities between the Philippines and the US regarding the West Philippine Sea.

National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. surmised the reelection of incumbent US President Donald Trump may result in the continuation of Philippine-US program regarding freedom of navigation on the disputed waters.

In case presidential candidate Joe Biden wins, the policies between the two nations may undergo reviews and amendments.

However, Esperon clarified that these are mere possibilities.

“Whoever is the head of state of the United States, we will deal with him, our President will deal with him, as he does now. And as he does with other head of state,” Esperon stated. – Report from Bea Bernardo
