The local government of Manila has accorded recognition to 73 barangays for maintaining a COVID-free status over the last two months or since September.
The said barangays were granted ₱100,000 aside from certificates awarded by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno. The mayor has urged the said barangays to continue keeping their constituents safe and healthy.
Among the awardees is Barangay 446 in Sampaloc, Manila which attributed its success to strengthened information dissemination in enforcing health protocols to its more than 900 residents. It also placed misting booths for the residents prior to their entry in the area.
“So far, tuloy-tuloy ‘yung ginawa namin. Wala namang nagkaroon ng sintomas. Tapos nagbigay din kami ng Vitamin C sa mga tao (So far, our actions are ongoing. No one had symptoms. We also give Vitamin C to residents),” Brgy. 446 Chairman King Ancheta stated.
“Itutuloy namin ang paghihigpit, ibabalik namin ‘yung misting booth namin at itutuloy namin ‘yung weekly pag-iikot sa bawat nasasakupan namin (We will keep on being strict, we will return the misting booth, and we will continue with our weekly rounds for each constituent),” Ancheta assured.
The council agreed that the prize received by the Barangay will be added to the yearly gift giving so that there will be more Noche Buena packages this coming Christmas.
Some barangays were not recognized despite having no current COVID-19 active cases since they had confirmed cases last September.
There are currently 508 active COVID-19 cases in Manila and more than 20,000 have already recovered. – Report from Patrick de Jesus
