MERALCO reduces power charges this November

The Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) announced a power charge reduction of 4 centavos per kilowatt hour for the month of November.

The 4-centavo charge reduction will lessen Php 8.00 for customers who consume 200kWh per month and PhP 12.00 for those who consume 300kWh, P16 for 400kWh, and P20 for 500kWh. This is the third lowest power charge since September 2017.

The price cut was caused by a low generation charge in the wholesale electricity spot market. The power supply in the Luzon Grid has been running smoothly together with a low demand due to typhoons and bad weather.

Meanwhile, MERACO has reiterated that there will be no electric disconnection for customers who consume 200 kWh and below until the end of 2020.

In accordance with the order of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), those who consume 201 kWh and above that have not yet paid their ECQ and MECQ bills will be given a minimum of 30 days grace period that started on October 29 without interest, penalty, or other charges while those who cannot pay within the given grace period can pay 3 equal monthly installment without interest and penalty. Said consumers will receive disconnection notices.

The ERC aims to help the public in dealing with their expenses amidst the pandemic by implementing the “no disconnection notice” policy.
