The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is making significant progress on the ongoing Alicia-Malangas Road Project despite the intermittent weather condition in Zamboanga Sibugay in the last few months.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said that the 24.10-kilometer road project with eight (8) bridge components is now 36.6 percent accomplished.

Even that the rainy season has affected construction activities, we have made significant progress on the project with positive 7.38 slippage, said Secretary Villar.

Secretary Villar added that the Alicia-Malangas Road Project is one (1) of the three (3) core projects of a bigger “Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project” (IGCMRSP) being implemented to enhance economic development and peace and order situation in the island provinces of Mindanao.

Secretary Villar was provided with an update on the project’s development following a recent inspection in Zamboanga Peninsula conducted by DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations and Technical Services Emil K. Sadain together with Project Director Sharif Madsmo H. Hasim and Project Manager Emmanuel
Supe of UPMO Roads Management Cluster 2 (Multilateral).

“The incessant rain in the area shifted our focus to the implementation of its bridge components since roads were unworkable for a while,” said Undersecretary Sadain.

To date, its bridge components have the following accomplishment status: Logpond Bridge at 87.81 percent; Tigabon Bridge at 84 percent; Payag Bridge at 51.71 percent; Lipacan Bridge at 36.7 percent; Bella Bridge at 70.57 percent; Ilisan Bridge at 73.5 percent; Lapirawan Bridge at 3.23 percent; and Sinusayan Bridge at 1.43 percent.

“With this pace on civil works, we are optimistic for the timely completion Alicia-Malangas Road Project by the first quarter of 2022 or earlier,” added Undersecretary Sadain.

The IGCMRSP is funded through a P25.26 Billion loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB).
