Residents in the danger zones of Albay have been evacuated as early as 10 o’clock Wednesday morning as the province experienced strong winds and rainfall due to #UlyssesPH.
Classes have already been suspended and establishments have already been closed in the province in preparation for the impact of the typhoon.
Dr. Cedric Daep of the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) said their Zero Casualty Formula has already been laid out to ensure that the unfortunate incidents during super Typhoon Rolly will not happen again.
Authorities explained that the province is experiencing a complex disaster due to six threats that include landslide in high areas, lahar flows near Mayon Volcano, storm surge in coastal areas like Tabaco, and the strong winds and heavy downpour while people are still recovering from the previous typhoon.
Sandbags have already been placed on several rooftops. Those who have gone back home from evacuation facilities due to super Typhoon Rolly will be evacuated anew.
“‘Yung sa lahar, expanded pa dapat ang evacuation nila dahil puno na ngayon ang river channel. Baka maghanap na naman ‘yan ng panibagong daan na hindi dinadaanan ng lahar noong Typhoon Rolly (Evacuation should be expanded due to the threat of lahar because our river channel is full. The lahar might find a new outlet which it did not pass through during Typhoon Rolly),” Daep shared.
Albay Gov. Al Francis Bichara explained that typhoon season usually takes place between November and December. He said they have already prepared food and non-food items for evacuees while donations from various sectors are piling up. – Report from Eunice Samonte
