The Court of Appeals (CA) is firmly standing by its previous decision restricting Rappler Chief Executive Officer Maria Ressa from travelling abroad.
The resolution released by the Special Twelfth Division has dismissed the third urgent motion of Ressa to travel out of the country to visit her mother in the United States who was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The CA stated that Ressa’s camp failed to prove the “necessity” and “urgency” of her trip. It also pointed out the non-disclosure of her true reason on wanting to visit her parents in her second motion.
The prevailing pandemic was cited by the CA which could prolong her stay in the western country due to the foreign travel restrictions imposed by many countries. The guilty verdict on her cyberlibel case had an impact as well. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
