DTI to issue policies protecting local automotive industry

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will issue policies to protect the local automotive industry from importation.

According to DTI Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo, a plan will be submitted to DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez for final approval before 2020 ends.

Based on their initial investigation, the local industry must have adequate protection from taxes against those who import cars. Rodolfo pointed out that the government is considering the hardship experienced by local manufacturers of cars just to recover from the pandemic.

The data of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc., and Truck Manufacturers Association shows that car sales in the past 11 months have dropped by 41.6% – PTV News
