China, 4 more countries added in travel ban

The government on Tuesday has expanded the list of countries covered by restricted travel as more places report cases of the new variant of COVID-19.

Recently included in the prevailing travel ban are China, Pakistan, Jamaica, Luxembourg, and Oman. More than 30 countries are already covered by the tight travel restriction which is set to last until January 15 unless extended.

Foreign travelers from the said countries are prohibited to enter the Philippines, while Filipino citizens are still allowed to return but will be subject to strict health protocols.

“Filipinos coming from these territories can still come home but subject to absolute 14-day quarantine kahit ano man po ang resulta ng kanilang PCR test (regardless of their PCR test result),” Palace Spokesperson Harry Roque stated.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday which will be followed by the weekly public address of President Rodrigo Duterte. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
