Security in W. Visayas cemeteries tightened

ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office (PRO) in Western Visayas has strengthened security measures in public and private cemeteries and areas of convergence to assure a peaceful observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 1 and 2, respectively.

Spokesperson of the Western Visayas Police, Supt. Gilbert Gorero, said Tuesday they are aiming for a “zero major incident” during the two holidays.

Gorero said they are on full alert and that all places of convergence are currently properly manned by uniformed personnel after nearly 2,000 assistance desks have been established in airport and seaport terminals, malls, cemeteries and churches.

About 600 route safety marshalls have also been deployed along the highways.

Firearms and deadly weapons, alcoholic beverages, card games, sounds that are too loud and smoking are strictly prohibited, Gorero said, adding however, that no prohibited item has so far been confiscated.

Noting that the situation in Western Visayas is normal, he appealed for vigilance and cooperation to ensure a peaceful, secure and orderly Undas 2017. (PNA)
