PRC to begin saliva testing for COVID-19

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) will begin the use of saliva testing in detecting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in some of its molecular laboratories in Metro Manila on Monday.

This was after the Department of Health (DOH) and expert panel of the government allowed the use of the more affordable and less invasive mode of testing.

PRC Biomolecular Laboratories Chief Dr. Paulyn Ubial stated that the saliva testing is still limited to their headquarters in Mandaluyong and Manila Port Area laboratory. The said mode of testing is scheduled to roll-out in provinces starting February 5.

PRC Chairman and Senator Richard Gordon disclosed that they are still waiting for the approval of the DOH to use saliva testing in airports. – PTV News
