PRRD: Do away from ‘padrino’ system in seeking job

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night dissuaded the public from engaging in the “padrino” system in their bid to seek employment in government.

The advice was issued during the reading of names of suspended personnel of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) due to alleged corruption and particularly due to “inefficiency and incompetence in the performance of official duties”.

“Maraming Pilipino na bright na walang trabaho. Diyan sa Civil Service, maraming nakalista riyan first grade eligible na hanggang ngayon hindi pa nakakita ng trabaho (There are many bright Filipinos who are unemployed. Many are listed in Civil Service as first grade eligible but have not yet found jobs),” he pointed out.

“I suggest na kayong mga first grade eligible, huwag na kailangan kayong mag-padrino-padrino. Mag-apply kayo sa Civil Service, the Civil Service will check the recommendations and I’ll appoint you (I suggest to you who are first grade eligible to do away with the padrino system. Apply at the Civil Service which will check the recommendations and I’ll appoint you),” he urged.

The Chief Executive assured that he will not look for political factors and special considerations for eligible applicants.

“Pagka magdala ka sa akin ng application tapos may sulat na ganito, ‘I endorse sa…’ Wala ‘yan (If you send me an application stating ‘I endorse to…’ That’s nothing).”
Early on November 2020, Duterte also mentioned that many Filipino graduates are brilliant and honest as he issued a warning to corrupt government personnel that they are not “indispensable.”
