Classes resume in 12 Marawi schools

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Twelve public schools have resumed classes after government troops finally “liberated from terrorist influence” the Islamic City of Marawi.

The liberation of Marawi City came after government troops killed in an intense gunbattle Oman Maute, the leader of the Maute group, and Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon.

The Bureau of Public Information in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BPI-ARMM) said the students returned on Monday to their respective schools after missing months of classes brought about by the crisis.

The schools that resumed classes are Sultan Conding Elementary School; Sikap Elementary School; Cabingan Primary School; Banga Elementary School; Datu Tambak Elementary School; Rorogagus Elementary School; Bito Elementary School; Pendolonan Elementary School; Abdulazis Elementary School; Camp Bagong Amai Pakpak Central Elementary School; Sugod Elementary School; and, Mipaga Elementary School.

The BPI said that the Department of Education in ARMM (DepEd-ARMM) has drafted recovery plans and programs for the school children displaced by the almost five-month Marawi crisis.

The DepEd-ARMM will also work on giving assistance to students and school employees in terms of psychological and social needs. (PNA)
