Caritas Manila urges support for Marawi telethon

MANILA — Caritas Manila is encouraging the faithful to support the Damay Kapanalig Marawi Telethon to help in the recovery of families affected by the conflict in Marawi City.

The telethon will be held on November 8 over Church-run Radio Veritas 846 to raise funds in rehabilitating the affected communities in Lanao del Sur.

“The government has recently declared the end of all combat operations in Marawi. The siege which lasted for five months, has displaced thousands and has reduced the once bustling city into ruins…Caritas Manila appeals for your urgent support to help our brothers and sisters affected by the hostilities in Marawi recover and rebuild their lives,” it said in a statement.

The proposed recovery towards rehabilitation projects are: Food and Non Food Relief Assistance with Solar Lamps and Water Filters; Psycho-social Support thru training and materials development for Peace Education; Temporary Shelter (Family size tents); Child Friendly Spaces; Toilet/WASH Facilities; and Livelihood – Cash for Work.

The public can participate and donate in the telethon by calling 925-7931 to 39, 563-9311 or 562-0020 to 25. Phone lines will be open throughout the live broadcast on Radio Veritas 846 and also via live streaming.
