Subic Freeport Expressway expansion opens today

The entire Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEX) expansion will be open to motorists starting February 19.

The expansion will separate the previously combined north and southbound carriageways. There are also two additional expressway lanes which are expected to cut travel time, especially for cargoes going to the economic zones of Clark and Subic.

Lights have already been installed while the elevation of Maritan Highway-Rizal Highway-Tipo Road junction has yet to be raised.

The opening of the project was led by DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, and other officials of the MPTC.

With the possible shift to nationwide MGCQ, Sec. Roque said the SFEX expansion will ease the travel time of motorists going to Subic and boost tourism.

The SFEX expansion will open to motorists at exactly 6 o’clock this evening. -Report from Karen Villanda
