Motorcycle lanes eyed in major NCR roads

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is now pushing for the establishment of motorcycle lanes along EDSA and major thoroughfares in the region.

During the inspection of bike lanes in San Juan City, MMDA Chairperson Benjamin Abalos Jr. raised the concern on motorcycle and vehicle riders using the designated bicycles lanes in the city.

“Sana kung bike lane, bike lane… Baka maaaring makagawa kami for the motorcycles… Sinasabi ko po ito because of safety more than anything else (Bike lanes should be bike lanes… Maybe we can establish [a lane] for motorcycles… I am saying this because of safety more than anything else),” Abalos pointed out.

The said bikes lanes passed the inspection as San Juan City aims to achieve anew the hundred-percent compliance rating of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) regarding bike lanes.

More inspection activities on bike lanes are expected be conducted by the MMDA in Mega Manila.

Meanwhile, the MMDA is also proposing the establishment of more routes for the ferry system including the Guadalupe to Carmona, Cavite route. – Report from Naomi Tiburcio
