DOLE issues guidelines on proper PUV ventilation

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued guidelines on requiring public utility vehicles (PUVs) to have proper ventilation for the safety of drivers and passengers.

Under Department Order No. 224, it must be ensured that the filters of air-conditioned units must be in good condition, the entrances and exits must be opened for 15 seconds, and that the units must be disinfected every trip.

The department warned that it is prepared to fine violators that can reach up to ₱40,000 per day.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) also reminded passengers not to be complacent and comply with the proper wearing of face masks and face shields.

According to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), government agencies cannot monitor every PUV passenger. The LTFRB advised them to be observant and have the courage to remind co-passengers who do not follow the safety protocols. – Report from Karen Villanda
