Gov’t agencies now winding up discussions on water concession agreements

Government agencies are now winding up discussions regarding water concession agreements.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Thursday said that government panel reviewing the water concession agreements “wound up yesterday their discussions on a new concession agreement with Manila Water Company, Inc. (MWCI).”

The panel includes Office of the President, Department of Finance, Department of Justice, Office of the Solicitor General, Office of the Government Corporate Counsel and Secretary Vince Dizon of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority.

Guevarra noted that “the panel will present this final draft to MWCI in a few days.”

“We hope to conclude a new and better agreement with MWCI before the end of the month,” the secretary added.

The DOJ secretary also said that “there were a couple of preliminary meetings with MWCI last month, which resulted in key agreements on important financial and commercial terms.”

Guevarra further added that “negotiations with Maynilad will follow thereafter.” – Kenneth Paciente
