PACC, BOC ink manifesto to fight corruption

By Kenneth Paciente

The Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) collaborated in pursuit of the government’s fight against corruption.

PACC Chairman Greco Belgica and BOC Chief Rey Leonardo Guerrero led the signing of the manifesto against corruption in BOC, Tuesday.

This is part of the PACC’s “Tokhang Laban sa Corruption” campaign that aims to end anomalies in all government agencies.

“This is another version of the “tokhang” wherein PACC is knocking on your sense of nationalism, putting the interest of the nation above self and appealing to your loyalty in your own office,” Belgica said.

“We have no intention to be your prosecutor, we want you to be your partner. The President expects you to cleanse your own ranks. If you fail this expectation, the PACC will do the job for you,” he stressed.

The BOC gave its assurance that the agency will cooperate as agreed.

“The Bureau manifests its commitment to sustain the gains we have made against corruption practices within the organization,” BOC Chief Guerrero assured.

Guerrero added that with the signing of the manifesto, “BOC will be in a better position to perform in fulfilling (its) mandates.”

In 2020, the Department of Justice named the BOC and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) as “corruption-prone agencies” along with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Bureau of Immigration (BI) and Land Registration Authority (LRA).
