Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine to arrive Sunday

Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Thursday (April 22) announced the arrival of the first batch of Sputnik V vaccine doses from Gamaleya Institute of Russia on Sunday (April 25).

The first shipment contains 15,000 doses and will be followed by the second delivery of 485,000 doses on April 29. One to two million doses are expected to be delivered in May, and will be followed by another two million in June.

“Kaunting pasensya na lang po dahil kasi, ngayong April, madadagdagan pa ng Sinovac — Gamaleya. At sa susunod na buwan, baka po dumating ang Moderna, at iba pang bakuna galing sa COVAX,” Galvez said.

[Just be patient because we will have more vaccines from Sinovac and Gamaleya. Moderna and other vaccines from COVAX Facility may also arrive next month.]

The Philippines received the fifth batch of Sinovac vaccines past 5 p.m. on April 22.

Senator Christopher Go said President Rodrigo Duterte is closely monitoring the status of the Covid-19 vaccine rollout, delivery, and other responses to the pandemic.

Malacañang assured that the government continues to negotiate with vaccine developers and manufacturers abroad to ensure a sufficient vaccine supply for the country to achieve herd immunity. – Report from Mela Lesmoras/AG-jlo
