Eksperto: Maritime patrol sa West Philippine Sea, dapat ipagpatuloy

Iginiit ng isang defense expert na dapat ipagpatuloy ng pamahalaan ang ang pagpapakita ng pwersa sa pamamagitan ng maritime patrols sa West Philippine Sea.

Nitong Abril 27 lamang ay napaalis ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ang ilang barko ng Chinese maritime militia sa Sabina Shoal.

 “Iyon ay pruweba na hindi totoong wala tayong magagawa. Mayroon tayong nagawa, mayroon tayong magagawa, at ang kailangan lang ‘yung tinatawag nating will and result,” ani Professor Jay Batongbacal ng University of the Philippines Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea.

Dagdag niya sa isang panayam, hindi sapat ang paghahain lamang ng diplomatic protest lalo na kung hindi pinapansin ng Tsina.

 Matatandaang ilang ulit na naghain ng protesta ang Pilipinas laban sa Tsina, dalawang buwan matapos mamataan ang ilang barko ng Tsina sa Julian Felipe Reef at Kalayaan Island Group.

Samantala, iginiit naman ng National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) na kailangan ng modernisasyon ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Ito’y bukod pa sa mga ginagawang pagpapaganda ng mga istraktura ng bansa sa West Philippine Sea.

“Kung maganda ang ating capabilities diyan ay maprotektahan din natin ‘yung resource-rich features tulad sa Malampaya,” sabi ni NTF-WPS Chairperson Hermogenes Esperon.

“We are pushing for the acquisition of multi-role fighter aircraft as it is critical capability for the defense of our country’s territorial airspace from any form of threat and enforcement of the Philippine Air Defense Identification Zone,” dagdag naman ni Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

 Ayon naman kay maritime expert Professor Rommel Banlaoi, mahalaga rin na maipakita ang pagkakaisa ng bansa sa isyu ng West Philippine Sea. 

Ito’y matapos umusbong ang usapin ukol sa darating na debate nina Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque at retiradong Associate Justice Antonio Carpio.
