The Department of Education (DepEd) aims to formally start the school year on August 23, while mulling the conduct of limited face-to-face classes amid the threat of more contagious COVID-19 variants.
The agency’s latest data showed 4.3 million students, representing 96% of DepEd’s target enrollees, have already enrolled for school year 2021-2022.
“We need face-to-face [classes]… maski limitadong araw lamang where it is safe to do so,” DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said.
Face-to-face classes have been suspended since the start of the pandemic in March last year. DepEd has conducted classes online using various materials including printed modules.
DepEd Undersecretary Alain Pascua mentioned other learning materials that can be used aside from printed modules such as DepEd Commons, DepEd TV, and DepEd radio. – Report from Louisa Erispe / CF-jlo
