BOC, PDEA, NAIA-IADITG seize P15.7 million worth of party drugs

Party drugs worth P15.7 million were intercepted by the Bureau of Customs (BOC), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) in a controlled delivery operation last May 11 at the Quezon City Postal Office.

The drugs were discovered inside three packages that went through an x-ray machine, revealing the ecstasy tablets.

The custom examiner checked the packages and noticed there was a false compartment in each. They contained 9,243 ecstasy tablets that amounted to P15,713,100.

After the discovery, the BOC teamed up with PDEA for the arrest of the consignee of the packages.

During the buy-bust operation, two people were arrested after attempting to claim the packages that were declared as “clothes,” “handbag and shoes,” and “baby clothes.”

The arrested perpetrators were identified as Rowena Canapit and Michael de Guzman, who presented an authorization letter from the consignee, Gloria Joy Buzeta, to claim the subject packages at around 1:00 p.m.

Records show that the package came from the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, on May 10, more than P270,000 worth of methamphetamine or shabu was seized in a buy-bust operation in Tondo, Manila, leading to the arrest of two people.
