OCTA report: COVID-19 cases down in NCR

The average COVID-19 daily cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) declined by 30% or to 1,644 this week, according to the OCTA Research Group.

Based on its report published today (May 15), the COVID-19 reproduction rate in NCR also fell to .57 and the positivity rate to 12%.

The average daily attack rate (ADAR) of Navotas, Malabon, Manila, and Caloocan decreased below 10 per 100,000 population, or at 5.99, 7.40, 8.33, and 9.89, respectively.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairperson Benhur Abalos Jr. said the decline in reported cases is also important when accompanied by hospital occupancy rate improvement.

The Department of Health (DOH) said there is no room for complacency, more so with the implementation of general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions in NCR+ area.

“We will shift to GCQ with heightened restrictions, but local governments have to intensify more their efforts. So ang atin pong pinaka-target is we reduce the time between detection to isolation to 5.5 days,” DOH USec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said.

In line with this, the MMDA said Metro Manila is intensifying contact tracing measures with over 5,000 additional contact tracers set to begin working next week. – Report from Naomi Tiburcio/AG-rir
