PRRD approves 25-year franchise of DITO Telecom

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed into law on Tuesday (May 17) the bill giving a 25-year franchise to the DITO Telecommunity Corporation.

The President signed Republic Act No. 11537 before the franchise’s expiration on April 24, 2023 under the telco’s former name Mindanao Islamic Telephone Company, Inc (Mislatel). The Senate approved its franchise on March 24, 2021.

Under the newly-signed franchise, DITO is obligated to improve and expand its operations to unserved areas and typhoon-prone areas.

DITO Telco launched its commercial operation in Metro Manila in May following its operations in several pilot areas in Visayas and Mindanao.

The company is a joint venture between businessman Dennis Uy’s Udenna Corporation and Chinese state-owned China Telecoms Corporation.
