Didal Targets Street World Championships

2018 Asian Games gold medalist Margielyn Didal is tuning up for the Street World Championships which will be held from May 30 to June 6 in Rome, Italy.

The said world event will serve as the last and biggest Olympic qualifying tournament where the top 3 finishers will gain an outright Olympic berth.

The Cebuana skater is fresh from the 2021 Dew Tour, another Olympic qualifier where she hit 12th place with 12.06 points, enough to keep her 14th spot for the Tokyo Olympic qualifier.

Philippine Street Skateboarding Team Coach Daniel Bautista said that his 21-year-old ward, “is still up there. We’re pretty confident that she’s still there.”

In the upcoming competition, Bautista admitted that it will not be easy for Didal to clinch a medal  and an outright Olympic slot since she will be facing the best bets in her division again who led the recently held Dew Tour event.

“Mayroong young girl, si Ryssa. I think rank 2 ngayon. We’re expecting her to do good. Ganoon rin si Pamela Rosa, world number 1 ngayon. The Brazilians are really strong,” Bautista said.

Before heading for Rome, Didal’s camp will first visit New York City for a week to have their flight-related documents processed. – Report by Khay Asuncion/ JBB-rir
