The Philippines is one of the recipients of the US’ COVID-19 surplus vaccines, the Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez confirmed on Friday (May 28).
According to Romualdez, these donated AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines may possibly be ready for delivery as early as June.
“[This] will greatly supplement the Philippines’ vaccine rollout program,” he added.
Romualdez also said that the Embassy is in close communication with the US government with constant coordination in this vaccine allocation.
The White House on May 17 announced its exportation of at least 20 million doses of US-manufactured vaccines, along with the 60 million AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
This exportation of vaccines is in line with the World Health Organization’s call for countries and manufacturers to share more doses to other countries that are in urgent need. – Report from Patrick de Jesus / CF-rir
