More health workers deployed to Tacloban

Nearly 50 medical frontline workers were deployed to Tacloban City this week to augment its challenged healthcare capacity and help with he COVID-19 pandemic.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) will shoulder the accommodation of the health workers who will fill the needed manpower in the city’s hospitals. 

“We received a call from the Department of Health requesting us to provide augmentation because of the fact there is shortage of medical personnel in the region,” OCD Region 8 office-in-charge Dir. Lord Byron Torrecarionn said. 

The Department of Health-Eastern Visayas reported 359 new cases in the region today (June 18), including 45 cases from Tacloban City. The local DOH is urging the public to observe health protocols to prevent transmission.

To date, the region has 25,824 total cases, 23,166 recoveries, and 356 COVID-related deaths.

Meanwhile, government agencies conducted medical missions and “Serbisyo caravans” in Llorente, Eastern Samar, with hundreds of beneficiaries receiving groceries, hygiene kits, and other items. – Report from John Aroa/PTV Cebu/AG- jlo
