PCG shooed seven foreign fishing vessels from Philippines’ EEZ

By Christine Fabro

A Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) patrol vessel successfully drove away seven foreign fishing vessels found within the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) on June 30.

In a Facebook post on Sunday (July 4), PCG said five Chinese ships and two Vietnamese ships were monitored via radar and automatic identification system (AIS).

The fishing vessels were found in the vicinity waters of Marie Louise Bank, situated 147 nautical miles off El Nido, Palawan.

PCG said patrol vessel BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) used a long range acoustic device (LRAD) to conduct a radio challenge to said vessels, in accordance with the PCG Manual on Rules on the Use of Force within the Philippines’ EEZ. – jlo
