COVID-19 jabs administered in mall chain top 1-M

The number of COVID-19 vaccines administered at a Philippine mall chain’s venues reached the one million mark today (July 14), amid the country’s strengthened vaccine rollout efforts.

The total number came from all the 62 SM Supermalls sites offered for the country’s nationwide vaccination program. The record was reached a month after the beginning of the essential workers or A4 group’s vaccination.

SM Supermalls President Steven Tan said the development is an outcome of their coordination with local government units to ensure a successful vaccination drive.

“SM Megamall can accommodate more than 2,000 a day, and we expect to activate more malls as venues as the community will need,” Tan said.

Meanwhile, National Task Force Against COVID-19 (NTF) deputy chief implementer Sec. Vince Dizon announced that the country has already administered 14 million jabs as of July 14 despite challenges in supply.

He added that the country reached its highest daily jab output on July 13 with 375,059 doses administered. The official said the target population protection attainment date is still between September and October.

“In less than two weeks, nakadagdag tayo ng apat na milyon na nabakunahan…sa buong Pilipinas. Partida pa po ‘yun kasi kulang ang ating bakuna ngayon,” Dizon said.

As of July 9, around 5.6 million individuals have been vaccinated in the National Capital Region (NCR) according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairperson Benhur Abalos. – Report from Kenneth Paciente/AG-jlo
