Some tectonic earthquakes jolted Batangas on early Saturday (July 24) morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The Phivolcs recorded a magnitude 6.7 earthquake at 116 kilometers southwest of Calatagan, Batangas at 4:49 a.m.
The said earthquake was also felt in nearby areas, including Metro Manila.
Phivolcs traced an Intensity V quake in Calapan City and Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Sablayan and Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro;Tagaytay City, Carmona and Dasmariñas City, Cavite.
Intensity IV occurred at Quezon City; Marikina City; Manila City; Makati City; Taguig City; Valenzuela City; Pasay City; Tagaytay City, Cavite; Batangas City and Talisay City, Batangas; and San Mateo, Rizal.
Pasig City and San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan also felt an Intensity III quake.
Phivolcs also recorded Intensity V earthquake in Calapan City and Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Intensity IV in Batangas City, Batangas; Carmona, Cavite; and Calumpit and Plaridel, Bulacan; Intensity III in Quezon City; Marikina City; Pasig City; Las Piñas City; Muntinlupa City; Malabon City; Navotas City; and San Ildefonso, Pandi, Malolos, San Rafael, and Marilao, Bulacan; Intensity II in San Juan City; Dagupan City; and Polillo, Quezon; and Intensity I in Guinayangan, Quezon; Magalang, Pampanga; Iriga and Sipocot, Camarines Sur; Daet, Camarines Norte; Palayan City, Nueva Ecija; Iloilo City; Kalibo, Aklan; San Jose City, Antique; and Bago City, Negros Occidental.
Another magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the same general area in Calatagan, Batangas at a depth of 107 kilometers and was traced at 4:57 a.m.
Aftershocks occurred, according to the Phivolcs earthquake bulletin.
There is no tsunami alert to the Philippines, following the recorded earthquakes. -rir
