President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed former Albay Rep. Joey Salceda as Presidential Legislative Officer with the rank of secretary, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced Tuesday.

Salceda will head the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO), the Office of the President’s principal link to Congress in advancing the administration’s legislative agenda.

A veteran economist and lawmaker, Salceda represented Albay in the House of Representatives for several terms and previously served as governor of Albay. He also chaired the House Committee on Ways and Means, where he authored and sponsored key tax reform, investment, and economic measures.

As PLLO chief, Salceda will lead the Office of the President’s coordination with the Senate and the House to facilitate the passage of the administration’s priority measures.

In a statement Tuesday, Salceda thanked the President for his appointment as PLLO head.

“I thank President Marcos for the trust and confidence. And I thank the Executive Secretary for his guidance. The most important resource of this administration is time. And with precious time and enduring support for the President in Congress, I humbly accept the immense challenge of passing the remaining major items of the President’s policy agenda,” Salceda said.

Salceda returns to the Cabinet after almost two decades, when he was appointed Presidential Chief of Staff in 2007.

“I also hope to serve as a bridge of the President for the wisdom, talent and insight of the private sector, the academe and broader civil society,” he said. (with a report from Connie Calipay/PNA)
