Public urged to be careful amid growing Delta threat

By Patrick de Jesus

The public has been advised to be extra cautious to avoid contracting the more dangerous variant of SARS CoV-2 amid an increasing number of recorded Delta variant cases in the country, including Metro Manila.

In the Laging Handa briefing today (July 28), Department of Health (DOH) National Capital Region (NCR) Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Head Dr. Manuel Mapue II said there are now 25 confirmed local Delta variant cases in the region.

At least one case was recorded each in Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Parañaque, Quezon City, and Taguig City. Two cases have been confirmed in San Juan, seven in Pasig, and 10 in Manila.

Sixteen of the cases in NCR are still active, eight have already recovered, and one died. Mapue said there is still no surge despite the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in NCR.

The City of Manila is now gearing up in its preparations if the imposition of granular lockdowns will be needed.

Meanwhile, National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 deputy chief implementer Vince Dizon reiterated the importance of vaccination amid the Delta variant threat.

Around 18 million doses have been administered nationwide. More than seven million individuals have already completed their vaccination. AG – jlo
