Cagayan Valley Medical Center augments capacity as cases rise

Several patients have been admitted outside the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC), the biggest referral hospital in Region 2, as it reaches full capacity due to the continuous increase of COVID-19 cases.

Hospital chief Dr. Glenn Mathew Baggao said almost 200 COVID-19 patients are admitted in the facility which only has 150 beds dedicated for COVID-19.

The hospital management will be adding 50 beds to augment its capacity.

“Pinag-uusapan na rin po namin ang pagdaragdag ng ating mga gamit, mga supplies, mga gamot, syempre ‘yung oxygen na napakahalaga, ‘yung ventilators natin,” Baggao said.

The Department of Health (DOH) said they will assist CVMC in terms of additional health workers that will attend to COVID-19 patients.

Patients who are already recovering from the disease will be moved to “step down” facilities to provide beds to severe and critical cases admitted outside the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force has approved Tuguegarao City’s proposal to place the city under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) anew. – Report from Oliver Baccay/PIA Cagayan/AG-rir
