FDA: Only 735 out of 11.7-M vaxxed people still got COVID-19

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday (August 13) said only 735 out of over 11.7 million vaccinated individuals contracted COVID-19 after inoculation.

In a virtual forum yesterday, FDA Director-General Undersecretary Eric Domingo said 546 who received only one dose of a two-dose vaccine got infected with COVID-19, while 51 infections among fully vaccinated individuals were recorded as of August 1.

Some 116 people also got the virus more than 14 days after their second dose.

According to the FDA chief, 61 who were vaccinated with Sinovac, AstraZeneca, and Sputnik V vaccines have died.

“Wala talagang vaccine na 100% ang efficacy. There will always be breakthrough cases,” Domingo said.

“Kaya naman pinaka-marami tayong na-re-report din na vaccinees ng Sinovac and AstraZeneca, kasi sila naman talaga ‘yung pinakamarami nating nagamit na vaccine at this time,” he added.

Data showed that 7 million people are partially vaccinated and 5 million fully vaccinated with Sinovac; 3 million partially vaccinated and 908,113 fully vaccinated with AstraZeneca; 249,708 partially vaccinated and 64,167 fully vaccinated with Sputnik V; 1.2 million partially vaccinated, and 1 million fully vaccinated with Pfizer; 76,207 partially vaccinated and 23,528 fully vaccinated with Moderna; and 1.9 million fully vaccinated with Janssen. – Report from Mark Fetalco / CF -rir
