2 gun smugglers intercepted in Cebu port

CEBU CITY — Elements of the Cebu City Port Police arrested two suspected gun smugglers Sunday night at Pier 1, this city.

Arrested in possession of 21 guns of different calibers were Eulidiano Galanse, 43, of Danao City and his 40-year-old sister Richel Puno of Barangay Talamban, Cebu City, who were on their way to board a passenger ship bound for Ozamis City at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Members of the Cebu City Port Police are still conducting tactical interrogation on the suspects, who claimed that they were just paid to transport the pistols but remained silent on who paid them and who will receive the firearms in Ozamis.

The port policemen were on the lookout for the suspects after they received a tip on the delivery of guns from Danao to Ozamis as early as Saturday.

Seized from the suspects were 17 .45-caliber handguns and four .38-cal revolvers which were stashed inside a sack placed inside a big bag.

Inspector Adolfo Abellana Jr., Operations Section officer in charge of the Cebu Ports Authority’s Port Police Division, said the suspects claimed they don’t know the real name of the person who hired them as they only know him by his nickname.

“As to the identity of the recipient of the delivery in Ozamis, the suspects said they don’t know anything about him or her as they were only told that someone will meet them at the Ozamis port the following morning (Monday),” Abellana said.

Charges of illegal possession of firearms are being prepared against the suspects, who are now detained at the Cebu Port Police Division office. (With reports from Michelle Bugtai/PNA)
