89% adult Filipinos wear face masks – poll

More than 80% of adult Filipinos follow minimum health standards to prevent COVID-19, according to a Tugon ng Masa (TNM) National Survey conducted by OCTA Research from July 12 to July 18, 2021.

About 89% of adult Filipino respondents said they wear face masks, while 85% cleaned their hands with water and soap or alcohol to avoid contracting COVID-19.

Survey also showed that the use of face shields followed with 70%, and the observance of physical or social distancing at 64%.

However, the survey also found that there was a decrease in the percentage of individuals who used face shields in the past month, the highest fall of 11%.

Moreover, only 25% of adult Filipinos avoided domestic travel, while about 20% consulted a healthcare provider when they were not feeling well.

TNM also saw that more residents in the National Capital Region (NCR) stayed at home compared to those in other areas.

Overall, the TNM survey found that adult Filipinos who practice minimum health protocols – including wearing face masks and face shields, observing physical distancing, and frequent hand washing – showed a decline when compared to the January 2021 TNM Survey results.

TNM Survey on measures taken to avoid contracting COVID-19, released on Saturday (Aug 28), is a survey conducted by the independent research group OCTA. It utilized multistage probability sampling using face-to-face interviews with a sample size of 1,200 respondents aged 18 and above, according to an OCTA release. – Report from Rod Lagusad / CF – bny
