Manila City prepares ‘storage for the dead’ for COVID-19 fatalities

In anticipation of the surge of COVID-related deaths in the city, the local government of Manila readied 20 fully air-conditioned containers for bodies of individuals who may succumb due to COVID-19.

According to Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Friday (Aug. 27), containers called “storage for the dead” will be used for the proper disposal of the remains, mainly caused by the surge of the highly transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant.

He said the fully-sealed containers are currently stationed at the Rizal Park.

As of Aug. 29, there are 1,811 active COVID-19 cases in the city. In total, there are 75,748 confirmed cases, 75,525 recoveries, and 1,412 fatalities.

Meanwhile, the city government of Caloocan said medical teams and volunteers from the Diocese of Novaliches have joined the city’s vaccine rollout campaign.

Some 12 parishes under the Diocese of Caloocan also serve as vaccination sites for residents in the cities of Malabon, Navotas, and Caloocan. – Report from PTV News / CF – bny
