Face shield provides an extra layer of protection, expert says

By Pearl Gumapos

Face shields provide an extra layer of protection according to an expert on Wednesday (Sept. 1).

ā€œ’Yung face shield po is an extra layer of protection. Hindi po pwede na face shield on its own. Kailangan po may face mask. Importante po na matakpan ang ilong at ang bibig para hindi malanghap ‘yung COVID-19,ā€ Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (PSMID) member Dr. Karl Henson said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

Henson then urged the public to continue following minimum public health standards.

ā€œ[Quarantine fatigue] is very possible. We have been dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning of 2020,ā€ he said.

ā€œMahirap isipin na pagod na pagod na ‘yung tao sa public health measures na ito. Kaso, ngayon po na mayroong surge, I think now is not the time na mapapagod tayo,ā€ he added.

Henson said ventilation remains important in the fight against COVID-19.

ā€œSa lahat po ng kailangan nating maalala, ventilation is very important. Kailangan, when you are in an enclosed space, as much as possible maganda ‘yung ventilation,ā€ he said.

ā€œNow is not the time to be complacent. Now is not the time na mapagod tayo sa pagsunod ng minimum public health standards,ā€ he added. – bny
