DFA brings home 117 Filipinos

A total of 67 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Cambodia were brought home by the Department of Foreign Affairs through the Office of Migrant Workers Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia last Sept. 2.

The OFWs were brought home via a sweeper flight.

Included in the flight were two minors, 12 senior citizens, and one pregnant woman.

The repatriated Filipinos were affected by the pandemic, having lost their jobs and were stranded in Cambodia.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia has sent home 1,037 distressed OFWs.

Meanwhile, 50 Filipinos from Laos have returned as well to the Philippines via Myanmar National Airlines flight UB-9905 last Sept. 1.

Included in the flight were seven children, one pregnant woman, a pet dog, and the cremated remains of a Filipino who passed away in Laos last July.

A total of 95 overseas Filipinos from Laos have been repatriated by the Philippine Embassy in Laos since the pandemic began. – PG – jlo
