The Philippine National Police (PNP) is preparing for the implementation of the granular lockdown in Metro Manila.
PNP Chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar ordered the Joint Task Force (JTF) COVID Shield, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), and cities’ police chiefs to coordinate with the local government units (LGUs) to identify the necessities in the implementation of the granular lockdown.
Based on the police’s data, 51 areas in Metro Manila are currently implementing a granular lockdown. The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) holds the highest number of areas under lockdown.
Moreover, based on the implemented guidelines, the residents’ mobility in areas under granular lockdown is restricted, even authorized persons outside of residences (APORs) are not allowed to enter or exit a lockdown area.
In relation to this, Eleazar bared that an adjustment and re-alignment of police deployment may occur since the authorities will closely monitor the lockdown areas. However, the PNP is still awaiting the guidelines from the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) regarding the granular lockdown system in NCR.
Meanwhile, the PNP chief also tasked the police to closely monitor public areas amid the start of “ber months” to ensure that safety protocols are followed.
