#JolinaPH maintains strength as it heads for Cavite

Severe tropical storm Jolina (international name Conson) is now over San Nicolas, Batangas and is heading towards Cavite, the state weather bureau said.

In the latest weather bulletin at 2:00 p.m. today (Sept. 8), Jolina’s center was estimated in the vicinity of San, Nicolas Batangas with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, gustiness of up to 160 kph, and central pressure of 998 hectoPascals (hPa).

Tropical cyclone wind signals (TCWS) are raised in the following areas:

  • Northern and central portions of Oriental Mindoro (Bansud, Gloria, Pinamalayan, Pola, Socorro, Victoria, Puerto Galera, San Teodoro, Baco, City of Calapan, Naujan)
  • Northern and central portions of Occidental Mindoro (Abra de Ilog, Paluan, Mamburao, Santa Cruz, Sablayan) including Lubang Islands
  • Central portion of Quezon (Infanta, Real, Mauban, Sampaloc, Lucban, City of Tayabas, Lucena City, Sariaya, Candelaria, Dolores, Tiaong, San Antonio, Pagbilao)
  • Batangas
  • Cavite

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), heavy to intense with at times torrential rains will be experienced over Metro Manila, Bataan, Marinduque, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro; moderate to heavy with at times intense rains are also likely over Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Romblon, Marinduque, the northern portion of Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental; and light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley.

Several local government units and institutions affected by Jolina declared class suspensions on Wednesday (Sept. 8).
