Signal No. 4 in parts of Babuyan Islands, Batanes; super typhoon possibility not ruled out

Several portions of Babuyan Islands and Batanes province are placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 as typhoon Kiko is expected to maintain its strength as it traverses Babuyan-Batanes area.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) 8:00 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin listed the northeastern portion of Babuyan Islands and the southern portion of Batanes (Basco, Mahatao, Uyugan, Ivana, Sabtang) under Signal No. 4.

The rest of Batanes and Babuyan Islands was placed under Signal No. 3, together with the extreme northeastern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga).

Signal No. 2 was raised in Aparri, Camalaniugan, Lal-Lo, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Tuguegarao City, Iguig, Amulung, Alcala, Allacapan, Lasam, Ballesteros, Abulug; San Pablo Isabela Maconacon, Divilacan, and Palanan in Isabela; and Flora, Santa Marcela, Luna, and Pudtol in Apayao. 

The rest of mainland Cagayan and Apayao; Pagudpud, Adams, Dumalneg, Bangui, Vintar, Carasi, Nueva Era, Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Laoag City, Piddig, Solsona, Dingras, Sarrat, San Nicolas in Ilocos; Balbalan, Pinukpuk, Tabuk City, Rizal in Kalinga; and Paracelis in Mt. Province are under Signal No. 1.

Also under Signal No. 1 are Tineg, Lacub, Malibcong in Abra; Dilasag and Casiguran in Aurora; and the northwestern and southeastern portions of Isabela covering Santa Maria, Quezon, Mallig, Roxas, San Manuel, Cabatuan, Aurora, City of Cauayan, Angadanan, San Guillermo, Dinapigue, San Mariano, Cabagan, Santo Tomas, Delfin Albano, Tumauini, Quirino, Burgos, Gamu, Ilagan City, Luna, Reina Mercedes, Naguilian, and Benito Soliven.

As of 7:00 p.m. the typhoon’s eye was located 190 km East of Aparri, Cagayan or 175 km East Southeast of Calayan, Cagayan, with a maximum sustained winds of 215 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 265 km/h.

It will continue to move over the waters of northeastern Cagayan on Friday night and may pass over the coastal waters of Babuyan Islands and cross the vicinity of Batanes until Saturday afternoon.

PAGASA said Kiko may still become a super typhoon, and may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday evening or early Monday morning. -AG-rir
