The Social Security System (SSS) finds itself affected as fewer and fewer persons submit payment due to unemployment, SSS President and CEO Aurora Ignacio said on Monday (Sept. 13).
“Naapektuhan po kami dahil nabawasan po ang nagbabayad sa SSS dahil sa unemployment,” Ignacio said during the Laging Handa public briefing.
“Recently po, nakapagtala na kami ng unemployment insurance benefit na ibinigay namin from the month of January to June this year. Malaki po ang porsyento na itinaas ng aming unemployment insurance benefit,” she added.
From July 2020 to June 20021, 240,000 individuals received an unemployment insurance benefit amounting to ₱1.75 billion.
“Ito lang po ay sa formal sector na dumadaan sa reimbursement ng sickness benefit,” Ignacio said.
According to her, the agency also paid ₱2.21 billion worth of sickness benefits from January 2021 to July 2021.
“Sa unemployment naman po, nagtala tayo ng ₱820 million from January to July,” she added.
Meanwhile, the SSS also approved an extension of the contribution payment program.
“I-extend po namin ang payment hanggang katapusan ng September at sa ibang lugar na under ECQ outside of NCR. Maglalabas po kami ng circular,” Ignacio said. – PG-rir
