Hugpong Para Kay Sara hopes Dutertes to reconsider decision in 2022 polls

Members of the newly launched Hugpong Para Kay Sara are bent on convincing presidential daughter Sara Duterte to join the presidential race in the upcoming 2022 elections.

House Deputy Speaker Rep. Bernadette Herrera said the number of those who believe that the younger Duterte is “the one and only at most qualified” to lead the country is increasing.

Sara Duterte already said that she’s not running for a national position following an agreement with President Rodrigo Duterte that only one from their family will run for a national post.

President Duterte already accepted Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan’s (PDP-Laban) nomination for him to run for vice president next year.

The new group is hoping that President Duterte and his daughter will reconsider their decisions.

“I hope this is one step, itong launching na ‘to, sana po ay makita niya na marami kami, maraming sumasama para magmakaawa sa kanya na na maawa sa ating bansa para tumakbo bilang pangulo,” Herrera said.

Malacaῆang said the decision should be left to the Dutertes, while reiterating their agreement that only one from the family will run.

“Habang hindi pa po dumarating ang October 8, hindi pa po natin alam kung sino sa dalawang Duterte ang maghahain ng kanilang Certificate of Candidacy,” Pres. Spox. Harry Roque said.

The current Davao city mayor thanked her supporters through a Facebook post.

“Mayor Sara is one with our countrymen who yearn for a brighter future for our country. She encourages all of us to continue to move forward amidst the challenges of our time,” her spokesperson Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco said. – Report from Daniel Manalastas/AG-rir
