Cebu Basilica proposes that only fully vaxxed persons volunteer at Sinulog

The Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu recommended to the city Emergency Operation Center (EOC) that only fully vaccinated individuals be allowed to volunteer at the Sinulog or Feast of Sto. Niño in January 2022.

The recommendation will push the conduct of face-to-face masses in the upcoming feast.

“It’s in their proposal na ang lahat nilang volunteers are fully vaccinated. It comes from them,” Cebu City Councilor and EOC chief Joel Garganera said.

The EOC said they will not prohibit priests and other members of the church from conducting and attending masses if they are not vaccinated.

“We never require them sa church dahil we only stick to our EO [executive order] na ‘yun lang mga enclosed na mga area,” Garganera said.

Meanwhile, the EOC urged the church to encourage their supporters to get vaccinated and help the government in its battle against COVID-19.

“We are not here to dictate, this is a very consultative body. This is a body na well-represented, every now and then we are inviting sectors also to help us on how to help them,” Garganera said.

The maximum capacity for religious gatherings in the city is 30%. – Report form John Aroa/AG- jlo
