PH economic adviser: Save airline sector to help start tourism recovery

Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Secretary Joey Concepcion on Saturday (Sept. 18) expressed concern for the aviation industry as companies ask for increased mobility among vaccinated Filipinos in terms of tourism.

“Dito sa airline sector, to protect them from bankruptcy and ultimately closing the airline, they have to be viable,” Concepcion said in a Laging Handa public briefing on Saturday.

Concepcion said that during a meeting with major airline groups, some suggestions were raised to save the airline industry. This includes reducing the quarantine period for fully vaccinated travelers from 14 days down to seven days, cutting down the expenses of travelers, and allowing the use of rapid antigen testing instead of the more expensive RT-PCR test.

“We have to save the airline sector kasi kapag masira sila, masisira rin ang tourism sector,” Concepcion said.

Meanwhile, Concepcion also explained the difference between “family bubble” and “business bubble,” as the latter being more systematic and well-coordinated.

“Sa component ng bakuna bubble, dalawa yan: family and businesses… The family bubble does not on relay sa vaccine but also in health protocols. If somebody has been infected, they should isolate sa mga bahay nila,” Concepcion said.

“Sa business bubble, organized ang private sector… Sa private sector, 90% to 100% percent ang fully vaccinated na ang empleyado dahil sa business bubble,” he added. – CF – bny
